I've been down with the flu bug since early this week, and it's been pretty much a brain-numbing episode. For most parts, I've been a curled up liked a drunken prawn, only this time not on wine but loads of meds. I've lost count of how many litres of honey apple cider, miso umeboshi, barley water, etc. I've drunk to keep things in control. Needless to say, it's really been Sal's constant care (and pot-loads of good food) that has brought me much mend.
This morning proved no different from any other in the past week. I woke up with a brain-numbing headache, and I could feel thick mucus slowly, painfully shifting in my congested sinus cavities. As I lay there, contemplating another day of vegging--it suddenly dawned on me how sickness tends to make us solipsistic. It was my good friend Calvin's birthday and it really kneeded me to know he was feeling glum about turning 27. When I felt that way about my birthday in March, he dragged me out (clawing and reluctant) and I ended up that night at Zouk like this:

Sick as I was, I couldn't bring myself to not call him up and get him out. Hoarse voice, painful sinus or not! Calvin has been a fast friend since day one, an unfailing pillar of support--and even pricking conscience sometimes. For that, I've always counted myself lucky to be his friend.
So, contrary to rational wisdom, I defied the flu bug, flew out of the house to drag him out for a spanking birthday lunch. He was initially reluctant, but quickly warmed up to the idea and--in the spirit of it--even bought a cheap instant camera to take stupid snapshots for the afternoon. It ended up pretty funny.
Lunch location: First Thai. An authentic Thai eatery along Purvis Street I'd just discovered from a tennis friend. I love this shot for the shadows and the angles. Think open-aired coolness, ceiling fans, plastic flowers and Thai art hung around the restaurant.
Thai art also happens to include a strangely placed, all-ambiguous rendering of Keanu Reeves. Apparently he is part-Thai.
Calvin took out his disposable camera. Pink and white interiors, coupled with lime green louvers make interesting subject matter.
Unfortunately, he turned it on me too.
"Flash me your sexy look!"
I was just hungry, really.
The food was the one that really deserved the attention. Fresh spring rolls and seafood hor fun. Lau nuaaaa.
In the end, I only lasted three hours before I started feeling feverish, but I was really glad we celebrated his birthday. The providence was definitely from God, kingdom friendship included:) Happy birthday Calvin!
Thanks Sarah for dedicating a post to me when I was nothing but an irritating piece of shit all day yesterday. I woke up this morning and everything has gone back to normal. Yesterday was like a dream out of reality and my amnesia has begun. I look at the photos, they feel strange, can't connect at all with what I felt, least to say why I behaved that way. Thanks man. You made it easier for me. Beeheehee heehee :)
